Wild and Free: The Mighty Wildebeest of Africa

There are two main types of Wildebeest:

The Blue Wildebeest

(Connochaetes taurinus) the more common species, often seen during the Great Migration in East Africa. They have a dark grey coat with a bluish tint and distinctive black stripes on their shoulders and sides.

The Black Wildebeest

(Connochaetes gnou) this species is native to Southern Africa and is slightly smaller. They have a darker coat, and their horns curve forward rather than downward like the blue wildebeest.

Both species are known for their migration, though the blue wildebeest’s journey is one of the largest and most famous animal migrations in the world.
